Nelson Residence

Addition and remodeling to transform a ranch home into a modern farmhouse interpretation.

Simple forms aligned along a curving path frame pastoral views, protect established trees and afford ample natural light to this home.

Project incorporates geothermal heating, photovoltaic solar panels, and solar domestic water heating.

The owners wanted their greatroom to have a sense of uplifting volume without the excessive volume of their previous two-story space. They also craved natural lighting without glare and a semi-formal living area that suited their living style.

A barrel vault was the perfect solution, providing lift and volume where appropriate, and offering lower ceilings to define the dining area.
