Youth

With the advent of e-books and online resources such as Amazon and Kindle, there is much speculation about the significance of libraries in the electronic age. While libraries must incorporate technology to compete with their online counterparts, we cannot discount the tactile nature of public libraries that cannot be re-created on screens.
To celebrate this aspect of a traditional library, my art piece is inspired by a book of poetry -
The Queen’s Visit and Other Poems, published in 1869. The book has a foiled and embossed cover with gilt edged pages. The beauty of this book inspired me to create a sculptural installation that borrows from the themes of youthfulness, beauty and nature in the minor poem titled Youth.

This project titled Central Inspiration was a collaborative exhibition by Edinburgh College of Art MA and MFA Illustration and Graphic Design students and the City Council of Edinburgh.
The exhibition was featured in Library as Incubator.
