HTML Fundamentals - Sebastian's official experience learning how to hand code a web page began when he took "HTML Fundamentals" at AcademyX in San Francisco. Though he has experience in designing web pages with applications such as Adobe GoLive and Macromedia Dreamweaver, a basic knowledge of HTML fundamentals helps him to understand how to read the source coding and tweak text elements when necessary.
Flash Animation - Sebastian's web animations often mimic the printed version of his artwork. With Flash, it's amazing to see static artwork in motion. Sebastian often pushes the envelope further by making multiple layers of motion, such as the flying saucer with flu bug commandos jumping out in little parachutes. Titled, "Invaders from Planet Flutopia," this animation was used as a web announcement for upcoming flu clinics at all of the district locations during the months of October through November.
Content Management System - The web content management system used at State Fund is called Red Dot. Sebastian was not only the systems liaison to the IT department, but he was designated as the web developer for the Communications Department as well. Though Red Dot is not as appealing to work with as Dreamweaver, the CMS program does allow him to work with source code if necessary.
Web Application - Before learning how to hand code web pages, Sebastian used Adobe GoLive to design web pages. In the era before social media web sites, Sebastian created Seb's Web, a personal web page from which he shared with friends and family about his life and the new things he has learned about designing web sites.
Optimizing Images for the Web - A working knowledge of Photoshop and how to effectively optimize images for the web is essential for quickly uploading photos to the intranet site. An experienced designer can determine the right compression setting to make the image appear exactly like the original while setting its file size to a minimum for quick browser loading.
508 Accessibility - Tagging PDF documents for web accessibility helps the visually impaired to have equal access to printed information posted on web sites with a special electronic reader. The mandate was originally declared by the U.S. Congress in 1998 and was carried over to local government agencies, including State Fund.
