"The Shack" - Book Cover Concepts

Winter 2007, Flash/Animate CC with a little Photoshop. This was a personal book cover design project I initiated for myself after reading "The Shack", in which a shattered father retreats to a small cabin in the woods to lament the loss of his murdered daughter. To his surprise and wonder, God appears, and stays with him, counseling him through his anger, confusion and frustrations with life. I developed symbols and motifs from the text, or introduced imagery that I felt brought the religious and psychological dynamics to life, and that would make a strong impression on a book store patron. After completing the illustrations, I chose and deployed a font for the title that matched the look and tone of the cover art. Four of the 7 concepts are gathered together here in one image.
