Floating Frame Bed - Entirely wood, the frame extends just far enough to make the feet invisible, giving the appearance of floating. The natural feel is brought out by hand sanding the semi-soft pine to bring out the veins in the wood. The edges plunge down with the mattress in a gentle, comfortable curve. Corners slightly rounded off for safety. A distinct transition between in and out of bed -which studies have shown promotes regular sleep. The greatest advantage (and original inspiration) for this piece is the usable space. Books, glasses, cups, lamps, etc. have a safe, broad and flat area to be placed - particularly behind the headboard, which is mounted on the inner edge.
Reading Room - I have recently gotten into woodworking. I usually spend most of my time drawing with ink and grey washes. This drawing is heavy with grey wash, giving it a heavy, baroque feel. It was the architectural chiascuro that drew me to the room itself.
3DS MAx - I found 3DS Max to be a simple and fun program to use. This is a little project I did while learning 3D Studio Max, Paestum's Ancient Temples. My only copy is a printed photo, scanned here. I wish I still had access to the program - my favorite part of this project was the entisis of the entire temple - there were no straight lines, the entire structure was slightly curved. I wanted to continue and do more with material mapping, but my school's computers were not equipped for 3d modelling and could barely handle the model as it was.
Ideation - Since I have decided a second degree in Industrial design is perfect for me, I've started just sketching raw, straight from my head. The ideation process is fun and I know I've just started to scratch at what I'm capable of. This is quite literally my first work with pens, I used prisma colors and I know I'm going to like them - after working in grays for so long.
Milan - Another of my numerous grey-scale ink wash drawings. I did this one while I was living in Italy. In Milan this street corner is covered by an iron and glass bubble, creating an incredible space and a good play of light and dark. The only tool I ever use, besides ink, pencil, wash and an eraser - is a ruler.
