Through, 2008 - Tubular steel, Nylon weave.
Exhibited at BKLYNDESIGNS '09 trade show and Third + Bond show of Pratt alumni work
Prototyping and sketching - A custom-built metal jig enabled quick testing of seat profiles. The curves were traced from a piece of bending poplar wood tacked to the wall. The lines replicate the natural tension of flexing wood.
Alias sketches and scale model - A prototype of the scale model above is currently in progress! In Alias I quickly modeled the idea as well as two new concepts that incorporated ribbon seating. The frame is inspired by the sweeping curves of early Bugatti sports cars. Its inflexible position also makes possible the chair's elegant purity of the form.
The weave - I wove the ribbon in a figure-eight movement that references Herve Leger’s bandage dresses. The technique provides a firm seat that transitions in and out of transparency depending on ones vantage point. Available in camouflage green, coffee brown, khaki light brown, violet grey, and black and white.
Through at Third + Bond - Shown in the violet gray ribbon at the Third + Bond installation of Pratt graduate work.
