Barley Mohawk for Labatt Beer - Individually cast foam barley heads on a removable base. The mounting job was difficulty due to the fact the car was a rental so we had to create a 'permanent' mounting base, and a removable top panel.
Side - My main responsibility was the structural integrity of the entire piece. It had to withstand highway speeds, yet the base could not exceed 1.5'' thick.
Pitch Presentation for new sign designs - The existing sign, No distinction or visual impact to draw attention to it.
Creation of a blank canvas - The company the sign is for is a granite good manufacturer. The core brand qualities the business should reflect is a clean even finish, well executed edge profiles, and a feeling of decadent high-class materials. The problem with the white background is the bars of light and dark created by the florescent tubes. This creates an image of cheapness, of imperfect surfaces and finishes. A lack of attention to detail.
Original Idea - This is what the client originally wanted, a plan white sign. It was my job to offer the client an augmented vision, one where the sign was not simply a place marker, but a representation of the company. It is the first handshake, the slick business card that makes a potential client want to check out what you have to offer.
Final Pitch Visual - If you change a company logo, usually there is a loss of recognition and visual continuity. One of the few switches that does work is switching white and black, especially if there is a consistent accent colour. The black sign creates immediate contrast between the other signs in the area and creates more of a visual impact
Ratio Change... - Other ways of upgrading the sign could be to create a raised sign with a bevel around the edge. This would imply the offered products stability and aesthetic, without being to literal or tacky.
