Makiki Library Concept

The scope of this project was to design a community library for the Makiki neighborhood in Waikiki, Hawaii. We were tasked with creating both public and private areas in one structure. I designed this building with the microclimate in mind, trying to make spaces and details that would allow for passive cooling year round. I also committed to creating an environment that honored community and the landscape by building into the existing site rather than destroying it and by creating open usable space for the public.
