The Bentley Urbane is my design project for Transportation Design 3, Spring 2022. The Urbane explores what a mid-market SUV for urban environments could be.
The Urbane complements the Bentley Bentayga. It features a smaller two-door body with a fastback design. This "Sport Utility Coupe" also features a smaller wheelbase than the Bentayga. This allows the Urbane to travel through urban environments. The Urbane also features a fully-electric drivetrain.
The exterior design of the Urbane also featured callbacks to Bentley's past. The beltline shape references the silhouette of the 1939 Bentley 4 1/2 Liter Embiricos Coupe. The exterior surfacing is also inspired by the "superforming" technique of shaping aluminum. This was a deliberate reference to the design philosophy of modern Bentleys. Finally, the large traditional grille was removed. Instead, the front of the Urbane was simplified, with slim vents feeding air to internal components.
