My final diploma project at National Institute of Design under the guidance of L.C.Ujawane. The project deals with the concept of a modular system bed which fulfills the needs of a middle-class family. Keeping in view the need for want of space, looks, and accessibility, an idea for a user-friendly bed with add-ons was conceptualized.
The side table can be utilized in different ways such as using laptops, reading, eating, storing and can also be used as a shelf.
The serving table can be used in both the bench and the bed, can be placed anywhere.
The bench can be used either way. The serving table can also be placed inside when not in use.
The bed is fully knock down whereby the joineries have been made in such a way that it can be easily assembled by the user. It is easy to install and disassemble the bed, does not require any tool. It is mount using three screws on each bracket flap.
Assembling the Bed
With the modularity in headboard, the customers are provided with variety of choice in • Form / Shape • Wood • With/without upholstery • Different range of fabric pattern/color for upholstery or Bamboo ply board • Finishing / Polish
The framework has multiple variations where the detachable add-ons could be in cooperated into the framework or left aside. The design also has replaceable components which can be changed on wear and tear. The flexibility of the bed gives the customer the freedom to purchase any of the add-ons depending on their requirements and budget, provided the standard size of the add-ons makes it applicable with all bed sizes where the users can purchase any of the add-ons at any point of time Eg: a customer buying the bed can opt to buy the drawers later giving them the time to think and choose as to whether or not it is useful for the user which also helps the customers economically and balances the budget by not forcing them to buy the whole set of bed at one go.

The modular system bed was designed and assembled using readily available raw materials native to the region. The procurement of local raw materials helps minimise the production cost. The project modular system bed is not only centered around the bed but it did cover a wide range of subjects where it provided a sea of opportunities to infuse local products to upgrade the living standard of the people.
