Motorbike House Hoorn

Hoorn Motorbike House

The Netherlands, 2009. Motorhuis Hoorn. A characteristic spatial steel house for extreme bikers.

Situation
Private family with seven beautiful bikes [and counting] needs a house for all.

Target
Create a house where we can live our bikelife all day long.

Action
Think of the bikes as the most precious treasure to decorate the house with. Park all bikes in a big central space, making the living room the garage so bikes can be seen form everywhere. Enclose all with a metal skin that refers to traditional local hay storage buildings.

Result
A house like no other. We wonder if the family ever leaves the house to take their bikes for a ride.

Did you know?
The all self supporting metal shell was to be constructed at a local shipyard. Sounds uncommon? Think of all those big metal structures those guys make every day! Its Corten steel shell can’t be made more efficient. After all, it’s a ship turned upside down.
