Afghan Chowk

‘Afghan Chowk’ is a photo documentary project by me. This project is based in Delhi on Afghan refugees and asylum seekers in India.
Afghan refugees were already a victim of human rights violation due to decades of conflict and war in Afghanistan. These violations extended to a point when living in Afghanistan became a life threat that made them seek refuge in India. But as one of the refugees put it, “It is like moving from one nightmare to another one.” Seeking asylum in India has brought a very different struggle for survival for these Afghans.

This documentary project is about refugees who live on with the violent past and an uncertain future. For a refugee, human rights violation is not a one-time event, but a struggle for an entire life. The project seeks to trace this struggle.
