My old high school was completely rebuilt, and my former art teacher reached out to me to design outdoor banners for the brand new auditorium. The guidelines for the project were loose; the banners were to represent the arts. I flatly rendered iconic symbols of the various arts: a guitar (music), a fountain pen (writing), Michelangelo's David (fine arts), a metronome (dance), and a stage costume (theater). The iconic symbols and flat design clearly communicate the building's purpose from far distances.
