Here is the final model of the kitchen composter. The body is ceramic, details with automotive clay, painted with acrylic.
The interior of the final model is a "looks like" mock-up. The actual product would have a straining system inside that the composted food would sit in. The strained liquid collects in a cavity at the base, and can then be poured from the spigot. The "compost tea" can be very nutritional for plants and will also help to unclog drains.

Some line drawings I did by hand and brought into Illustrator to add color. The section and exploded drawings show a basic concept for how the straining system works.

First study model, made of automotive clay. It was with this model that I phased out the handle at the back of the composter.
Second mock-up, life-size, made of blue foam and coated in plaster. Here I added a plastic spigot and realized the scale of the spigot needed to be reduced by about 50%.
Inspiration collage I made to better understand URBN's unique style (magazine cut-out collage, edited in Photoshop).
