Retail area for a white- goods appliance store. Bangalore: - Dealt with zoning, layouts, movement, display structures and overall look and feel of the retail area, keeping in mind the kind of clientele expected and the image that the chain wished to project. The project was begun at Tessaract Design, Bangalore but later extended hypothetically.
Industrial Exposure at R.J.B Design Bombay - Worked on the design of display structures for a nationwide chain of shops, keeping in mind the visual language of the shops and ease of transport through on-site assembly. Worked on a poster display cum pamphlet dispenser unit, a full poster display structure and a small-product display which was finally not used. The fixtures double up as functional elements in the pamphlet dispenser, preventing stacked pamphlets from slipping.
Graduate Shows 2001 and 2002 - A showcase of the graduating students' work, this is the first project completed at NID as a group project. Worked on both years shows, dealing with display type, layouts, suspension systems, movement and lighting. In 2001, we used banners as a tying in factor for the exhibit and the subsequent year, the layouts were done such that from any point in the exhibit, all four categories of disciplines are seen.
Sets for theatre and film - Top: A set made for Shakespeare's 'King Lear' during a workshop at India Habitat Center,Delhi. Experimented with lighting techniques and created a model set for three acts of the play. Bottom: Set for a barbershop, made for a student film '3 and a 1/2', during the Production Design course. Done as a group effort, the set was erected entirely out of junk, using easily available materials and manipulating them to look realistic.
Industrial Training with Art Director Bijon Das Gupta - Worked on five projects with the firm, including the set shown. The set was created for a dance bar, which was used in the film for about three songs, with changes in the backdrops, keeping the basic set the same. The "Bollywood" film industry largely depends on song and dance sequences to make a film work. Was interesting to observe first hand the way things work there!
