From dock worker to Asian champion to a world Olympian.
Rene, a 2nd class navy man, was born in Guimaras Island, Philippines. His father was a janitor and his mother was a housekeeper. During his youth, he worked as a stevedore in the local dock to earn money help and his family. During high school, Rene discovered his talent in track and field. He represented his class in the intramural and participated in local marathons. His talent eventually led him to become part of the national team and sent to compete in the South East Asian Games and Asian Games.
