Chemicable - Interactive Chemistry Table Interface

ChemicAble is a Tangible User Interface (TUI) product for teaching ionic bonding to students of class 8 to 10. ChemicAble acts as an experiment tool for students to re-enforce the concepts of ionic bonding taught to them in classroom by letting them explore and learn by making errors .The system consisted of a table, a projector, a camera, a sheet of glass and a laptop. The projector and camera were placed beneath the table. Tokens were hemispheres representing the atoms tagged with fiducial markers underneath and having the name of the atom along with the mass and atomic number written on the top.The students were able to play around with the different tokens representing different atoms and see the possibilities of bond formation and compound formation. If a compound is formed the interface displays the message , thus they can experiment till they get it right, hence re-enforcing their concepts of bond formation.
