FABRIC CONSTRUCTION

The explorations shown here are the unfolding of my journey of discovery that was guided by my enthusiasm and curiosity about the litchi fruit.
The spiky texture of the outer cover, the fleshy and succulent fruit and the large seed at the
core, the manner of peeling the spiky skin were the various attributes explored in paper and
fabric mediums in order to develop innovative concepts for fabrics and or products.
Various tessellating patterns were explored in laser-cutting to examine the stretch factor of
a flat surface of cloth. These laser cut forms which have been incised on a cloth respond to
wind movement and stretching along the diagonal grain of the fabric creating different lattice
forms. These patterns were derived from the structure (grid) of the outer cover of the litchi.
