Final Design - Design Intent- To create a modern play environment within a natural setting. Plateaus and trees shape the organic design characterized by natural curves and colors found in nature. The play areas and walking paths are not of pure geometric form and are based on the idea of continuous flow. Age groups are separated by a large lawn space. Color changes in the protective surfacing signify age appropriate and handicap accessible play.
Before - The existing minimal play equipment was determined unsafe as part of the City of Pittsburgh Playground Safety Program. It was to be removed and replaced by a greater amount of modern play equipment. After the removal, the site was left as a large open green space characterized by elevation changes and many trees.
