Late 18th Century, Louis XVI Settee
Carved and gilt wood canope/settee in a Neo-classical style upholstered with tapestry. An 18th century carved and gilded settee, made primarily from walnut, attributed to the French menuisiers (carpenter) Georges Jacob (1739-1814, Master 1765). The tapestry is woven with a pattern of baskets and garlands of flowers, framed by gathered and swagged drapes.
The settee had undergone a dry and wet cleaning, some structural work and had been re-gilt in various places.
