For this house, a partner and I needed to work together to create a house for a client. Our challenge was to design the ideal space for a couple who has grown children. Although they have been empty nesters for the last five years, they recently found out that their daughter and granddaughter, age 13, are moving back in. The teenager is not excited about moving in with her grandparents. To make the best of a difficult situation, we designed a house with 2 floors, keeping the grandparents on the first floor for their safety and leaving the second floor for the mother and daughter upstairs, where they have plenty of room to be independent. We also added plenty of room for the family to entertain guests on both floors.
