EPOCH Magazine Covers - This magazine is designed as a publication for a Natural History Museum. Since the subject matter is serious and potentially static, it was important to keep the design modern and dynamic. This was achieved through typography, color, and the combination of illustration and strong photography.
EPOCH Magazine Spread - One main feature of the design was the addition of a "timeline" throughout the magazine. At the bottom of each article and in the table of contents, color bars were added, highlighting information. This created a system through the articles, while staying true to the subject matter of the magazine.

EPOCH Magazine Pull-out Spread - The pull-out spread from the magazine demostrates illustration, information design and the strong grid developed for the piece.
L.A. Quartet Book Cover Series - Originally conceived as posters about three of James Ellroy's novel quartet about 1940s and 1950s Los Angeles, the designs were altered and translated into a series of book covers. Each was based on a spontaneous collage, and stays true to the dirty, gritty, corrupted subject matter of the series while maintaining the unique tone of the individual books.
Classical Now Poster - The poster was based on elements and layout of an original collage, translated into an informational poster for a dual piano concert. The final poster uses carefully designed typography and imagery to capture the duality of the event. The movement of the piece evokes the spirit of the music, and the abstract nature of the elements will intrigue viewers into finding the shapes in the poster while communicating the message as their eyes follow the lines of the space and information.
Design for the Future Poster - Created for the Guangzhou Design Week, the theme of the poster competition was "Design for the Future". This poster represents a vision of the fragmentation of time: that pathways are not set in stone, but have the ability to branch in any direction based on personal decisions. Event information was added on top of the imagery, including all of the various design disciplines involved in the celebration.
Master of Fine Arts Thesis Presidential Primer Book - The primary project for the M.F.A. Thesis was based on the question "how do you give voters issue information without the candidates' personalities becoming influential?" The solution was to list the position statements for all the candidates in a neutral manner, in one document. This would allow voters to find out which candidate they are most in line with by completely removing the candidates' names and personalities from the equation.
Master of Fine Arts Thesis Presidential Primer Spreads - The creation of the Issue Primer involved both information and publication design. Twelve pertinent issues and the candidates' positions were selected, edited and randomized. They were then placed in a grid system that allows for high legibility and neutrality. The names of the candidates were removed, as were any references to specific legislation that would identify the candidate involved. Upon completion, users find the candidate with which they are most in line.
