Extant Fables
The figures in this exhibition, incorporating elements of disparate sources ranging from African minkisi figures to Spanish polychrome religious sculpture, are the imagined actors of nonexistent stories. While the absence of a clear narrative for such colorful characters appears counterintuitive, the void created by this lack of structure allows for the viewer’s intuitive compass to create compositions made from all of the associations and assumptions that have slowly and silently accreted to the mind.
