Teck Headframe Museum/Visitor Centre

This project involved the design of a corporate interpretive centre for Teck Resources Ltd. as part of a larger development of its new headquarters in downtown Vancouver. Situated in the penthouse level of the Bentall 5 Tower, the ‘Headframe’ (a reference to the structure on top of an underground mine) functions as a multi-purpose space suitable for guided or individual exploration of Teck’s corporate history and achievements, staff training and orientation, and private events. The design team was tasked
with the development of an interpretive centre that focused on the rich and extensive history of Teck and Cominco, the contributions of mining to the history of Canada, and the company’s ongoing support of Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes. The project used innovative lighting techniques, focused sound projection, large format illuminated graphics, selected artifacts and networked digital kiosks, to create a compelling interpretive experience within a constrained space.
