Wood*e Concept Car&Chassis

The theme of the project got me thinking in the first place about safety and how nature develops systems for protection.

My main inspiration came from the anatomy of the woodpecker, because this remarkable bird can experience huge forces when drumming its head into a tree without any damage to the brain. After a careful study I realized that this is achieved by combination of special bones and anatomical structures and I want to replicate this effect to protect the passengers in a car.

Concerning the lightweight aspect I looked at some of the most modern materials and technologies and I decided to change the typical electric vehicle packaging by removing one part of the heavy battery and store the respective energy in kinetic form with the far more compact KERS system. Also I want to greatly reduce the usage of fasteners and fixings in the chassis by developing new way for bonding the extruded aluminium parts.
