2014 Wilsonart Student Design Challenge hosted at Appalachian State University. The challenge was to design and fabricate a bespoke and iconic chair that demonstrated an unconventional application of Wilsonart high-pressure laminate (HPL) products. The design brief required the use of a wood pattern laminate and was to celebrate the regionalism of Western North Carolina and Appalachia. Use of the wood pattern was to demonstrate the sustainability of laminate as a visually accurate alternative to rare, exotic hardwoods of at-risk forests.
