The slim design of the pump enclosure features built-in bottle holders to provide somewhere safe to keep the bottles and to prevent spills. The purple color is a key element of the Lansinoh brand and is used throughout their entire product range. All internal parts of the pump simply slot together for easy assembly, only finally being held securely in place when the enclosure is fixed together with 4 standard screws. This also allows for material separation and recycling at end of product life. The Affinity pump is FDA and UL approved for use as a medical device worldwide and is one of the most advanced and affordable pumps available. It was launched in 2010 and is now available from several major outlets including Target and Walmart.
The graphic user interface design centered around the LCD display and the control buttons. Brightworks designed the panel layout and graphic design, including the screen & button iconography and user interaction.
The ComfortFit™ breast flanges are 2-shot moulded to provide comfort and a good seal against the breast. This also serves to reduce the number of components and gets rid of gaps which are difficult to keep clean.
The plastic parts of the bottle and breast flange were extensively tested for milk contact and for extended usage. The Breast flange was also validated for skin contact.
One of the most difficult parts to develop was the silicone diaphragm that prevents milk flow into the pump mechanism, which otherwise could damage the pump. Our design may be used either way round, for ease of re-assembly, whilst still providing an air-tight seal between the flange and the cap parts.

The Lansinoh Affinity double electric breast pump provides mothers with the option to express breast milk quickly and efficiently at their convenience.

The lightweight and portable device can be used as a single or double pump, and it is mains or battery operated.

The pump has 2 separate phases that simulate a baby’s natural sucking pattern and a quick change button which allows the user to easily switch between the initial stimulation (let-down) phase and the expression phase. The pump has 8 suction and 6 cycle settings which together provide an unprecedented level of control of the suction pattern for maximum comfort and efficiency.

The pump is extremely easy to use and the simple interface is icon based; meaning that it may be used in any language without translation. The backlit controls make it easy to use under low light conditions and at night.

Brightworks was responsible for the industrial design, product engineering, materials validation and graphic user interface design.
