mHealth device

The majority of people at risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) aren’t monitoring, assessing, and communicating their health frequently enough to prevent serious illness. Integration of this type of monitoring into their lives should be addressed. The objective of this conceptual project was to design a device that passively and unobtrusively monitors the health of at risk people on a daily basis, while communicating data with physicians. As well, to reduce the amount of time spent in clinics for these types of checkups, and reduce the overall medical costs spent on CVD caused from catching it too late. This project entailed extensive research of CVD and COPD, medical technology and how they’re used, as well as human factors.

The device monitors 6 functions:
-blood pressure
-heart rate
-oxygen level
-body temperature
