Concept & Narrative
Designed as a museum merchandise piece for the MoMA Store, Chescis translates the ethereal duality of Pisces into a functional game. Inspired by the fluidity of water, the board emulates ocean waves, while pieces reinterpret traditional chess hierarchy through organic forms like sea horses, corals, and water droplets.
Technical Innovation
To preserve the concave board's aesthetic, a hidden magnetic anchoring system was developed. Neodymium magnets in spherical-base pieces interact with internal metal plates, ensuring stability on curved surfaces. This creates a subtle pendulum movement, emulating the sway of a boat on water.
Smart Functionality
Spatial Efficiency: Adheres to a strict 10x10x10 cm storage limit while providing a 20x20 cm play area.
Mechanism: The board features an integrated folding system that transforms into the storage box itself.
Materiality: 3D printed in PET-G for high mechanical resistance and a premium finish.
