Hybrid furniture -

This was a furniture design brief where we pulled objectives out of a hat and had to join them to create a furniture piece that would suit both. The two objectives I was given where ‘Somewhere you can sit and read a weekend newspaper and somewhere you can store a mountain bike’.
At the time of this project I lived in a small apartment in St Kilda and was using the parks such as the St Kilda botanical gardens as my back yard. I wanted to create a piece of furniture that was a capital good for the city of Port Phillip to place in their hundreds of parks areas. I observed how people where using these parks as their back yards in a highly dense population in the city of Port Phillip with many people living in one bedroom apartments blocks.
This design would be Roto moulded and made from HPE it would bend when a person sits in it and has slots to place a bikes tyre in to ensure the user could park their bike, relax and the bike would be secure.
