"Dessine moi un baobab" is a simple game I created to teach myself Unity. Baobabs grow on a tiny asteriod (B612, to be exact), and your job is to pick the baobabs before they grow too big. This was my first game in Unity, and my goal was to teach myself to a little bit of everything: game design, graphics + lighting, sound design, and of course programming. The game progressed from a photorealistic planet full of floating trees into a graphically cohesive game based on the Little Prince universe, complete with a soundtrack I wrote and recorded myself. Code on Github: github.com/catiejojo/baobab Music on SoundCloud: soundcloud.com/catiejojo/chanson-de-baobabs.
I started with very simple shapes and images I found online. My goal was to spawn trees randomly about a planet with the tree facing the center.
The final game features a loading screen, sound effects, and better visual indicators to improve the flow of the game. This includes a display of lives remaining, visual indicators when a tree is growing, almost grown, and fully grown, as well as the scene dimming when the game is over. A few game screenshots are shown above, and you can watch the final game video below.
