Contemporary Coffee Table

This coffee table was made without the use of a CNC machine. It is made from maple veneered plywood. Half of the pieces were finished with an oil based stain while the others were treated with a water based die in addition to the stain. This project was great for exploring the use of jigs to drill holes and assemble the table.

I chose to include elements of motion by using maple dowels in two of the three table legs. The smallest leg uses one dowel as a pivot point while the next table leg uses two dowels as a guide system allowing back and forth motion. These pieces were sprayed with varnish and finished with wax to reduce the friction between them. The shelf and upper ring that supports the glass top were finished with a varnish clear coat.

The glass top is 24" by 48" standing at roughly 21".
