Project Scenario
Due to the recent turmoil in the housing market, many families are choosing to buy older homes in established neighborhoods and remodeling them to reflect changes in modern lifestyle and design preferences. Students must update the design of the home with either a remodel or addition to meet the needs of the client.
Concept Statement
The design for the Gordon house incorporates an open layout floor plan into the renovated colonial style. Connectivity between spaces increases family connections and encourages communication; however there is a separation between public and private space. The original section of the house is to be kept intact as a original colonial house with materials like warm toned paints and original hardwood floors while the addition will include modern finishes such as new cabinetry and furniture with lighter, cool paints that accentuate the natural light that the house will have. These will be combined as a welcoming update for the young family.
