Through The Looking Glass Dress Design

Through The Looking Glass:
A university project to design a garment inspired by architecture to which I used Bernt and Hilla Becher photographs of industrial buildings and structures. Inspired by their photographs of spherical water towers I created a garment entirely made from segments piecing together to create spheres and curves. Using a mixture of materials including silk, cotton and wool alternatively gives the segments a softer textural drape. The final garment: a dress with detachable collar and muff exudes a dramatic presence.
As a stark contrast to the initial inspiration the photoshoot for the dress takes place in nature, a romanic idilic garden, to showcase the voluptuous folds and ruffles created by the segments.
