The cover of the magazine features a photo of a Wood Duck taken by my father. After researching the styles of many other nature magazines such as National Geographic, Audobon, and various hunting magazines, I settled on slightly transparent deep green boxes to make my white text stand out against the photo.
Though not Lorem Ipsum, the "Upstate Waterfowl" article is a combination of another writer's piece on the Wood Duck, as well as a Wikipedia article. This spread was a valuable exercise in typesetting and the use of a grid to create a uniform presentation.
Featuring photos of my own 2 dogs, Jack and Pepper, the second article spread I constructed for The Northern Countryman was great practice for organizing type as well as the use of pull quotes and drop caps.

Magazine Project

Another project in my Graphic Design 3 class, I was tasked with creating a magazine cover and 2 two-page article spreads. I chose to use much of my own and my father's photography in a nature-themed magazine titled "The Northern Countryman."
