Upcycling

As part of my second year study, students had to use waste materials to design products that were of market standard. My first product, the 'hanging out' chair, was a piece of garden furniture produced with washing line equipment. The wood was from the washing line prop, the seat was made from resin fused with pegs and the back was the washing line itself. Secondly, the 'Vouge cushions' were scatter cushions that upcycled a magazine. They were produced by ironing cling film and padded with the contents of the magazine itself. Finally, I met a brief of designing two lights, one table lamp and one standing lamp. The table lamp, 'traffic light' is created using toy cars and the standing lamp created using unused bike wheels and spokes.
