A cluster of smooth blue asters (Symphyotrichum laeve var. laeve) defines the foreground of this autumnal scene at the New York Botanical Garden. With a mix of green and orange leaves, a northern red oak (Quercus rubra) anchors the composition in the background. Native plants including prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis) stand between, displaying more fall color. I took this photo at the New York Botanical Garden in late September. The National Wildlife Federation named this photo the category runner-up for Certified Wildlife Habitat Landscapes in the 2024 Garden for Wildlife® Photo Contest. https://www.nwf.org/Magazines/National-Wildlife/Photo-Contest/2024-GFWPC-Winners
