REACH / power assistive bodywear

REACH / power assistive bodywear (2013) is
an underwear torso suit supporting the lives of people affected by Motor Neuron Disease.
The embedded EMG sensors and accelerometers activate the Nichel-Titanium shape-memory alloy fibers enclosed within the Spandex fabric to discretely support everyday motion and reduce dependence on others.
REACH has been developed by Yuki Machida, Dario Martini, João Moço, Lise Pape and Elisabeth Raby supervised by Jim Dawton, as one of the winning projects of the 24hr Inclusive Design Challenge organized by Julia Cassim (RCA) and Matt Dexter (SHU) during the Design4Health 2013 Conference at the Sheffield Hallam University.
The project is currently lead by the University of Sheffield for further progress.
