Department: 2110|School of Architecture/Design

Responsibilities:
-Teach lecture and studio courses as suited to the candidate's experience, expertise, and discipline.
-Establish a rigorous research agenda.
-Contribute to committee tasks, advise students, and engage in service activities that advance the mission of the School, College, and the University.
-Enhance the School’s curriculum and course offerings in social responsibility and community engagement.
-Actively support and mentor student organizations.
-Provide guidance and leadership in fostering a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
-A terminal degree (i.e. Ph.D., M.F.A., D.Des, or Master in Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, or a related field). For a detailed description of terminal degrees, reference the Teaching Qualification Tables.
-ABD will be considered. The degree must be completed within one year of the initial appointment start date.
-Proficiency in community engagement and socially responsible design, focusing on endeavors that bridge design with societal needs. Areas of expertise may include responsible urban development, participatory design processes, environmental justice, non-Western design traditions, global practice, inclusive and sustainable practices, and fostering resilient communities.
-Potential for contributions to peer-reviewed scholarly and/or creative endeavors, with a clear direction in research and/or creative undertakings.
-Aptitude for interdisciplinary collaboration.
-Aptitude for working with beginning design students.
-Aptitude for supporting student resiliency and retention.

Start Date: The starting date for the position is August 1, 2024.

UL at Lafayette, School of Architecture/Design

The School of Architecture and Design at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette invites applications for a tenure-track, probationary, 9-month, full-time appointment. The appointment requires faculty members to serve a probationary period of employment before a consideration for tenure is made. The rank of Assistant Professor is based upon performance as well as potential. The candidate must have a strong academic record and should hold an appropriate terminal degree. All regular, continuing faculty members will follow one of four workload tracks as described in the Faculty Handbook. A faculty member’s track will be determined in consultation with their director and dean. Academics in Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, and related fields are encouraged to apply.
