Search for the Dean and McWhorter Endowed Chair
College of Architecture, Design and Construction
Auburn University
Auburn University seeks an inspiring and innovative leader to serve as the next dean of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC). This is a compelling opportunity to lead the CADC at a moment of momentum and growth. The next dean will lead a diverse and collegial community of exceptional faculty, staff, and students to champion the College’s culture of teaching, practice, research, experiential learning, and creative inquiry. Reporting to the provost, the dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the CADC and will set an ambitious course for the College that continues its trajectory of excellence and impact.
The CADC offers seven undergraduate programs and five graduate programs across three schools - the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, McWhorter School of Building Science, and the School of Industrial and Graphic Design. Firmly rooted in Auburn University’s land-grant mission, the CADC’s structure supports designers, makers, thinkers, builders, and problem solvers to improve the lives of the people of Alabama, the nation, and the world. At the CADC, students learn to create, design, and build in rigorous, nationally ranked academic programs that prepare them to be good stewards of natural and built environments.
With a budget of approximately $38 million, the College comprises over 75 faculty members, 57 staff members, and approximately 1600 students. The School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture and the McWhorter School of Building Science are located in two adjacent buildings, with the School of Industrial and Graphic Design a short distance across campus.
The Dean will bring an appreciation of the disciplines that make up the CADC and display an ability to work with colleagues in the College and across the University, as an advocate and partner. The dean will encourage and support innovative teaching, practice, and scholarship; possess the skills to generate and manage resources adeptly within the context of the University’s strategic responsibility-centered budgeting model; maintain and strengthen relationships with alumni, donors, and industry; be adept at advancing inclusive excellence; and elevate the national and international reputation of the College.
The successful candidate will present a distinguished record of achievement in research and/or practice, education, leadership, and administration commensurate with appointment as a full professor. The Dean will have an energetic and collaborative leadership style that inspires faculty, students, and staff to develop a compelling and ambitious shared vision for the future.
