Role Summary:

Our dynamic team, located in Charlotte, North Carolina is passionate about creating innovative products through a user centered design approach. At TTI Floor Care you will work closely with product management, consumer insights and engineering to generate unique solutions that solve consumer frustrations. As a member of the Industrial Design team you will have the opportunity to work across brands and categories in the consumer and commercial industries. The fast-paced work is rewarding and covers the entire range of corded and cordless floor care appliances.



As a Director of Industrial Design you will define and drive design execution for the next generation of residential and commercial products. You will work directly with senior leaders from design, marketing, engineering and consumer insights to help the organization develop meaningful innovation and grow the business. You will manage a team of industrial designers to lead initiatives and represent the voice of design with our internal stakeholders. You will help implement design strategy, develop and share best practices and continually improve the design capabilities within the business. This highly creative leader must be able to gather complex inputs and utilize the design process in a fast paced, dynamic environment to create product experiences which satisfy the business objectives. The perfect candidate for this role lives and breathes design, has a natural empathy for end users, excels in creative problem solving, and has an endless curiosity for how things work.



Essential Responsibilities:

Lead a team of Industrial Designers while participating as an expert contributor
Implement design strategy and carefully evolve brand language on all TTI Floor Care brands
Provide coaching and thought leadership on design process and execution to the business
Work with Consumer insights to scope research activities which inform and validate design direction
Lead team through the creative problem solving process which utilizes rapid prototyping and rigorous user testing
Work closely with cross functional leaders to establish design goals and project scopes
Effectively implement the design process to the specific project or business need
Guide team to create a balance of usability, performance and brand language requirements
Provide manufacturing and product cost guidance to meet program goals
Manage multiple projects across categories simultaneously
Execute toward a holistic end to end user experience that brings each brand's strategy to life via product design
Maintain a continued understanding of the marketplace, competition, industry, methods and relevant trends.
Stay current on color, material, and cultural trends that help drive product design

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design
12 + years designing for manufactured consumer goods
Exceptional portfolio demonstrating innovative concepts and commercialized products
People-management experience in product design
Demonstrated experience creating, developing and delivering outstanding product experiences
Experience working with user researchers to understand user needs
Highly effective problem solver and creative thinker
Able to design and develop new products through strategic thinking and process
Strong ability to rapidly communicate ideas through 2D drawings
Experience working with external design firms
Experience working across multiple types of products and platforms
Demonstrated excellence in evaluating end user experiences through rapid physical prototypes
Strong observational skills, end user empathy, and ability to identify insights from qualitative research
Advanced experience applying fundamental ergonomics to product design
Demonstrates strong understanding of aesthetics, design function, and human factors
Demonstrated hands-on experience in a professional product design environment
Thorough experience in product manufacturing and injection molded part design
Excellent verbal communication, presentation and negotiation skills
Strong ability to verbally communicate ideas and concepts to management


Software:

Highly developed Photoshop, Illustrator and Keyshot skills
Parametric CAD experience preferred (Solidworks or Creo)


Travel:

Some domestic and international travel is required
