Job Description

Commercial book publishing company seeks a Mid-level Freelance Graphic Designer to conceptualize and create marketing materials and Advance Reading Copies for our list of fiction and nonfiction books.

This is a remote freelance position reporting to the Creative Director and working 5-12 hours per week. Rate is determined based on experience with a range of $30 - $45 / hour.

The position encompasses a range of design and typography formatting responsibilities associated with every stage of creating ARC covers and promotional assets across all genres including:

* Design ARC packaging (back, inside front and inside back covers) and prepare mechanicals to print
* Design print and digital assets to promote books
* Work closely with Publishing Projects Manager to ensure timely revisions and printer deadline deliveries.
* Prepare files for digital and offset print
* Research, source, license and retouch stock photos and images

REQUIREMENTS
* 3-5 years of promotional design experience, preferably in both print and digital
* Advanced proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite CC (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator)
* Understanding of the book cover design process and some technical knowledge of book production
* Speed, accuracy, and a strong conceptual background
* Design portfolio that demonstrates creative talent, a refined sense of typography, and a powerful sense of communication
* Ability to handle multiple projects, work independently and meet deadlines comfortably
* Self-starter with a proactive, optimistic outlook, strong work ethic, meticulous attention to detail and superior organizational skills
* Ability to assess target consumers and design compelling, creative visuals that will appeal to and engage them
* A strong eye and vision for high quality compelling images and graphic design
* Hand lettering skills a plus
