Full-time Faculty, Graphic Design
Full-time appointment in Graphic Design. The Graphic Design Department of the Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for this full-time faculty position with a multi-year renewable contract in a non-tenure institution beginning August 1, 2020.

The College seeks a vibrant and innovative designer engaged in Graphic Design and committed to inclusive pedagogy. The successful candidate will be passionate about current and emerging possibilities for Graphic Design in networked culture. We seek a professional with pedagogical approaches that are relevant and responsive to a student body that is rich in diversity across race, ethnicity, gender, class, and their intersections. The educator will teach courses across the curriculum and build a community of design excellence.
We seek a candidate devoted to pedagogy and research within a framework of curiosity, generosity, collaboration and critical inquiry. The successful candidate will have a mastery of Graphic Design methods and the ability to teach and work across multiple Graphic Design modalities—from print to screen to object. Our new colleague will have the ability to integrate theoretical, conceptual, and practical issues into pedagogy for visual communication.
This faculty member will teach eighteen credits per year (three courses per semester) at an art school nationally known for its dedication to teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and the importance of the fine arts and will be capable of teaching all levels of the undergraduate program. MICA is a student-centered institution, and candidates must be committed to and capable of successfully teaching, mentoring, and empowering a diverse population of talented and deeply-engaged students.
In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the Department and College. Faculty are also required to meaningfully contribute in a variety of areas that include: all aspects of departmental operations and institutional governance including departmental management, advising, institutional and departmental committee service, and scheduled departmental and student activities.
• BFA or BA in related field.
• Teaching experience at the college level beyond graduate assistantships.
• Strong record of professional excellence as demonstrated by a portfolio of work and a record of public engagement relevant to the designer's creative practice (client work, exhibitions, online or print publishing, symposia, talks, etc).
• Commitment or proven ability to teach to English language learners.
• An expressed interest in the greater Baltimore community through teaching or practice.
• Proven ability or commitment to integrate diversity, equity and justice within the department and the college.
• MFA, MA or other graduate degree.
• Minimum two years of full-time teaching experience at the college-level beyond graduate assistantships.
• Experience designing in multiple languages or for global audiences.
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
