Job Description

Pentland Brands are looking for a driven and attentive junior research and testing technician. You must be passionate about the application of science and technology within sports and health, harnessing a desire to positively impact the experiences people have when they try on, wear, use and interact with our products and brands. To be successful you should be highly motivated, adaptable, and someone that thrives on capturing and translating data into meaningful results.

This role will support research and testing activity, with an emphasis on materials characterisation and evaluation. You will work to develop test methodologies, using a creative and practical approach, to assess concepts, products and systems against set performance criteria. You will support in carrying out testing programmes, both lab- and field-based, and furthermore, working closely with the Research and Testing Specialist, you will help to form clear recommendations as to what actions should be taken following your analysis of results.

Responsibilities: Support in running testing programmes to evaluate materials and product performance, including lab- and field-based testing. Accurately capture and interpret data into meaningful results, organise testing equipment and samples/specimens for testing, engage and organise human subjects for research and testing activities. Contribute to the development of test and validation methodologies, Communicate test results clearly and concisely in written reports and verbal updates to the R&D team, as well as wider project stakeholders, create state-of-the-art reports, including literature reviews and competitor analyses, with respect to identified consumer problems.

Needs to have: Worked toward a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Technology/Engineering or a similar course. Have knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data capture methods as well as an understanding of experimental design. Have an understanding of sports technology/engineering, sports biomechanics and human factors. Be interested in research, testing and design methodologies appropriate to Swim, Outdoor and other sporting and recreational activities.Have sufficient ability to manage, manipulate and clearly present data using Microsoft Office apps (Excel, Powerpoint, Word).

This is an exciting opportunity to join Pentland’s Research and Development team, a multi-skilled team providing innovative solutions to important consumer problems, for our globally recognized brands. This includes Speedo and swim, Berghaus and outdoor, Endura and cycling and Canterbury and rugby.

This role is part of the UK Kickstarter Scheme.
25 hours per week (3 days) for a total of 6 months.
Working days to be agreed when appointed.
