The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University (SMFA) invites applications for a full-time Professor of the Practice position in Graphic Arts beginning in September 2021.
We seek an artist/designer with a practice in print and screen-based graphics. This may include web-based art, interactive narratives, networked art, design for social impact, and other forms of social-media-related public interventions. We are looking for an artist, who works with design and whose art may expand over several disciplines such as digital painting, photo, installation, and time-based internet projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to integrate design practice across media with a critical stance toward those technologies.
We are seeking an educator who has a strong grounding in art and design, and who can teach courses in the practical, theoretical, and historical aspects of design, including decolonizing design history and promoting equity within the design field. Candidates should be able to teach a wide range of theme-based courses for beginning- and advanced-level students. A client-based background in graphic design, computer illustration, typography, participatory design, IxD and UX design is a plus. An MFA and at least three years of teaching and of design practice are required.
