Job Description

Gutierrez Studios is on the hunt for an experienced project designer to join our growing team of creative talent. With almost thirty years in business, our unique combination of technical skills and design sensibilities distinguishes G:S as an industry leader. We specialize in handcrafted architectural metalwork, furniture, and lighting for commercial and residential markets. Our team of designers and craftsmen oversee a project’s complete life cycle – from design and engineering, to fabrication, finishing and final installation.

Our ideal candidate is a dynamic, highly skilled individual who is passionate about the design process and is not intimidated by new challenges. The position entails creating fabrication drawings for a wide range of projects based on in-house designs, a client’s drawings or directives, budgetary constraints, structural limitations, and material properties. As a G:S designer, your responsibilities will also include field measuring, material sourcing, client relations, and production management. Candidates should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, advanced knowledge of construction methods for the built environment, and find excitement in seeing a design materialize from concept to reality all under one roof.

Gutierrez Studios is located in Baltimore’s historic Clipper Mill campus with easy access to public transportation, restaurants, one of the nation’s oldest parks, and several great neighborhoods. G:S currently occupies 20,000 square feet in the aptly named Foundry building – where machine parts were cast in the late 1800’s. In addition to an inspiring work environment, G:S offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package.

Designer Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, or Mechanical Engineering
* Minimum 5 years professional experience in related design field(s)
* Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D drafting & 3D modeling), Adobe CS, and Microsoft Office
* Strong conceptual sketching skills
* Ability to interpret and generate technical, architectural, and structural drawings
* Hands-on knowledge of building materials and fabrication techniques
* Strong organization & communication skills

If you are as passionate about design and craftsmanship as we are then we would like to hear from you! Please email your cover letter, resume and portfolio samples (PDF format, under 10MB) to

John K. Gutierrez founded Gutierrez Studios in 1991 to help people flourish within their spaces. Today, we are a tight-knit team of designers and craftsmen who share a passion for making beautiful things that last. We give as much thought to the form and function of a stool as we do a staircase. Building is in our blood, and we are excited about making anything—from stools, tables, benches, and lighting, to staircases, signage, sculptures, and even trashcans.

G:S provides design, engineering, fabrication, finishing, and installation services. In our 20,000-square-foot workshop we bend, cut, shear, form, weld, punch, and otherwise manipulate the finest materials we know: steel, stainless steel, bronze, copper, zinc, aluminum, wood, glass, plastic, and composites (and if we don’t know it, we learn it). Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind furnishing for a home, or multiple architectural features for a commercial space, we build it here, by hand, one piece at a time. And we build to last a lifetime.

Regardless of a project’s size and scope, we deliver meticulous craftsmanship, personalized service, and a passion for enhancing the built environment. Our clients are composed of architects and designers, builders and homeowners, universities, hospitals, churches, museums, and public institutions. For nearly three decades, we have transformed ideas into the things you can’t live without.
