Overview

Leading the development of our products is our global team of in-house designers, actively exchanging thoughts and ideas across our design centers in Japan, Germany, the US, and Thailand. As a Senior Designer, Fittings you will be creating innovative concepts, products, experiences, services and human interfaces through the mastery of the design process within LIXIL America’s New Product Development community.

Responsibilities
What you will do-

-Participate in design projects from concept generation the design development of product solutions that exceed consumer needs, under the American Standard and DXV brands
-Distill complex concepts and quickly turn around solutions reflecting a range of simple, elegant, and technically-feasible options
-Be an expert in User/Human-Centered design and have a consumer centric mindset to create products that meet functional and aesthetic needs
-Receive design brief from Product Marketing and align timeline and resources for proper execution of the project;
-Collaborate with Insights team to set up research projects aligned with projects needs
-See thru the execution of the design by following up with the project management/engineering team and the vendor(s) Prepare proper documentation for Stage Gates; attend the stage Gate meeting when needed.
-Seek/follow/use Trends inside and outside of the K&B Industry to guide Design/

Major Tasks:

-Work very closely with all new product development departments, including Engineering, Advanced Concepts, Product Marketing, Purchasing, and Manufacturing in a team atmosphere to achieve new product designs;
-Lead/manage his/her own project, including carry out competitive research, actively participate to ethnographic research, set up timeline and deliverables;
-Develop and maintain familiarity with materials and processes used in the industry and the manufacture of plumbing products.
-Maintain current awareness of competitor product offerings including product design trends in North America and Global markets;
-Successfully implements design solutions while maintaining the integrity of a design. Possess the ability to distill complex concepts and then quickly turn around solutions reflecting a range of simple, elegant, and technically-feasible options
-Maintain current awareness of consumer competitor product offerings including product design trends in North America and Global markets.
-Develop and maintain familiarity with materials and processes used in the industry and the manufacture of plumbing products.


Organization Relationships:

-Works alongside Engineering, Product Marketing, Communications, and Manufacturing in a team environment. Collaborate with other members of the Lixil Global Design organization

External Business Relationships:

-Interact with vendors and suppliers
-Attends industry trade show and seminars as needed to maintain awareness of competitor products, designs, and overall consumer product design trends, and maintain professional skills.

Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field of study
-Minimum of 6 years’ experience in industrial design, interior design, architecture, furniture, lighting and/or other related field.
-Strong portfolio demonstrating thought process and an understanding of the steps needed to create an experience
-Strong form development skills - understanding of 3D form in terms of aesthetic, details, proportions and various styles
-Passion for designing appealing, revolutionary products that make an impact on people’s lives
-Excited by working on difficult problems with a dedicated team of high-energy, high-caliber people.
-Strong aesthetic sense and artistic skill in addition to good technical competence
-Must have good control of relevant 3D and 2D CAD tools – (Rhino, Alias, Solidworks, Pro E, etc – Adobe Creative Suite, Keyshot, Vray, Maxwell, etc) to help create, simulate and render compelling ID and user interaction solutions.
-Maintain strong knowledge of the plumbing industry and adjacent industries (consumer electronics, furniture design, etc.)
-Understand, identify, and use trends
-Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
-Must have the ability to combine ID objectives with the objectives of engineering, marketing and human factors disciplines
-Good verbal and communication skills. Comfortable interacting with project team and category management team, as well as members of the Lixil Global Design organization.
-Ability to Lead/manage his/her own project, including carrying out competitive research, actively participating to ethnographic research, setting up timeline and deliverables
