The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Senior Designer for our Creative Service department. A Senior Designer leads the creative execution of projects and initiatives – delivering key elements of the organization’s holistic vision by executing projects from research to production. Working in a team environment by supporting many projects at one time, this role gathers research for potential applications, strategic frameworks, or visualization as well as executing projects. This role independently develops concepts and also collaborates as part of a team of designers supervised by a Design Manager or Creative Director at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Develops and executes creative concepts from ideation through all stages of production
Responsible for results through design excellence on key strategic initiatives
Exhibits technical skills to review and resolve complex problems
Strategizes problems and develops creative problem-solving opportunities for expansion to implementation.
Observes and promotes all accessibility requirements and follows sustainability guidelines
This position has the following requirements:
Minimum 5-7 years related experience
University/Bachelor’s degree in the field of design or equivalent required (masters benefit)
Working knowledge in several of the following areas: motion graphics, content strategy, service design, content management systems, digital marketing, branding, journey mapping, wayfinding/signage programming, social engagement platform development, environmental design planning, retail story creation, packaging, and publishing.
Experienced user of cross-platform (Mac & PC) software applications and document management
100% hands-on design/production work
Manages many projects with critical deadlines
Assigned as Mentor for development of junior staff
Demonstrates strong presentation skills with an understanding of design strategy methods and practice
Innovation-driven mindset through challenging existing processes and/or methodologies
