Job Description

St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a day and boarding school of 705 students (grades 6-12), is seeking a full-time Senior Graphic Designer.

The Senior Graphic Designer (SGD) works as a member of the Marketing and Communications team to create a variety of print and electronic materials to promote the school’s brand and reputation, increasing awareness and engagement of various constituencies, support student enrollment and retention, and the school’s fundraising efforts by executing design concepts as well as maintaining visual appearance and brand continuity in both print and digital environments.

The SGD will fulfill a range of graphic design requests from team members and internal clients in support of various projects and events. The SGD will also shoot photographs and videos for special events and projects under the direction of the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. The SGD will play a key role in sustaining a consistent and compelling look and feel for the school’s brand.


Manage the overall look and feel of the school’s visual design, photography and video elements in compliance with established brand guidelines.

Lead graphic design and photography efforts for digital and print materials, including the annual report, the school profile, admissions collateral, special program brochures and flyers, print ads, fundraising appeals, signs, banners, posters and other event collateral.

Lead graphic design and photography efforts for social media, digital content for the website, marketing emails and digital advertising.

Project manage and maintain collaborative relationships with designated print vendors ensuring deliverables are submitted and received in a timely manner, and that all deadlines are met.

Develop print and digital templates to assist internal clients with producing their own materials.

Communicate and collaborate with internal departments to edit and approve collateral with graphic elements ensuring each piece meets brand standards.

Manage the school’s SmugMug site for archiving and accessing the school’s photos and videos, including maintaining high-quality standards by editing photos and videos for color, brightness, contrast, clarity, size, and resolution.

Take compelling photos of daily campus life and select fine arts and sports events, as well as photos of major annual events.

Coordinate with the CMCO to plan for, hire and coordinate with contract photographers, videographers, and other freelancers to provide professional quality images in a timely manner for publications and the website, as well as in-house clients.


Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field.

Possess a strong sense of storytelling, concept development, have superior design, technical and editing skills and current knowledge of industry software and design trends.

Extensive graphic design expertise, as demonstrated through a design portfolio across a variety of print and electronic mediums, along with a solid grasp of the Adobe Creative Suite.

Experience creating professional print-ready files, as well as designing templates, graphic elements and photos for email marketing, digital advertising and the web.

Strong photography skills, as demonstrated through a photography portfolio spanning portrait, event and lifestyle photos.

Experience producing short videos for use on the website and social media platforms.

3-5 years of experience working in a professional office environment, preferably in the field of education.

Experience working on multiple projects concurrently, including setting project timelines, understanding client needs and meeting deadlines.

Experience working with content management systems as well as managing a photo, video and visual asset archive.

Team player and independent performer with the ability to work collaboratively and autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
