We are looking for a Senior Industrial Designer with 5-8+ years of design and user-research experience to join BH. Medical device experience is preferred. The new team member will be enabled with resources and methods to be instrumental in developing a profound experience for users of “mission-critical” devices. This position will require domestic and occasional international travel.
Roles & Responsibilities:
• The ideal candidate is personable, enjoys a relaxed studio environment, has outstanding visual, written and verbal communication skills, enjoys design research and design development equally.
• Excels in the design process from conceptualization, mockups, 2D and 3D-CAD model development (Sketchbook Pro, KeyShot, Illustrator, SolidWorks preferred), mechanical layout design, design research/contextual inquiry, brainstorming and user preference studies.
• Has significant experience with the discovery process of design research and translating those insights into design solutions that meet user needs.
• Implements a variety of user-centered design research methods, ethnography and persona creation. Optimizes user interface design by integrating UX mapping and ergonomics.
• Works in interdisciplinary teams with human factors and systems engineers to analyze and evaluate design concepts, user interfaces and generate robust designs and specifications.
• Provides accurate, well-defined, and articulate verbal, written and visual presentations to clients.
• Supports business development efforts by leading prospect meetings, sales presentations and authoring proposals.
• Travel required: Up to 10% domestic (and occasional international) travel is required to conduct design research and design-related meetings. Additional travel may be required to attend tradeshows, seminars, and other work-related activities.
Work Experience/Knowledge
Work experience of 8-10+ years in the following areas of excellence, preferably in a consultant environment:
• Bachelor’s degree (at minimum) in Industrial Design
• High proficiency in sketching, storyboarding and model-making.
• A strong familiarity with manufacturing materials and the DfX process is desired
• High proficiency with SolidWorks (including surface modeling), Adobe Suite, KeyShot and Sketchbook Pro
• Experience with design research, Ethnography/Contextual Inquiry (especially in the healthcare space) is a plus
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite
